FAQs

  • Confidentiality is of critical importance when you talk with a psychologist or mental health therapist. Information can only be released with your written consent. Exceptions to confidentiality and privacy are governed by law and in case and include if there is risk of suicide or harm to another person, abuse of a vulnerable person, or if your file is part of a subpoena. In case of these your psychologist or mental health therapist will work with you to ensure the lease information is shared so as to protect your privacy and confidentiality.

  • There are many factors that impact the length of psychological services including what brought you to seek services and how long the issue has been a problem. The most important factor is the confidence in your psychologist or therapist and if the approach makes sense to you.

An assessment typically involves between 3-12hours of direct time with the psychologist. Talk-therapy and counselling can range depending on the specific approach and the goals identified.

  • Cost depends on the service received and a comprehensive assessment can range from $1500.00 to $4000.00 depending on the assessment and the questions to be answered. Therapy costs are generally $235.00 for a 50-minute session and can be discussed between you and your therapist. Most insurances cover or partially cover the cost of services.

  • Just as with physical health, mental health has emergencies. If it is an emergency, you should contact the mental health helpline (1-877-303-2642), call 911, or present to the nearest emergency department or urgent care center.
